Thank you for letting me know this. I believe I was telling you have wonderful it was to find your videos on gerbil care since I am new to owning gerbils. I also asked what size wheel is ok for them to use. My topper on my tank is only 11 inches tall. So a 12 inch wheel will not work. I have a 6 inch diameter wheel in their topper for a while and they never used it expect to sit in it. So I would like to try a larger one, but I don't have the funds to keep buying different size wheels. :) Here is their set up now. I would rearrange the topper items to make room for a wheel if a proper sized one could fit. The tank is 30inches X 12 inches X 12 inches with a 11 inch tall topper. I wish it had a front door for hand taming, but it doesn't. :( Most toppers with front doors I have found are not this tall.
I suspect the reason why they didn't use the 6 inch wheel was because it was much too small, a 12 inch is the minimum size recommended by welfare organisations for wheels for gerbils, an 11 inch should be close enough but I wouldn't go any smaller than that. I'd also look at upgrading your tank if you can, the minimum size for them is 100x50x50cm, or approx 40x20x20 inches. I believe I shared some options for you in the Facebook group, the bucatstate 100x50 acrylic enclosure has a front opening door and enough room for the minimum 25cm of bedding, I believe niteangel also has similar enclosures if you're US based 🙂
Hello Everyone, my name is Connie and I am a new gerbil owner seeking others who love gerbils to find out how to care for them and share photos and the love of these little creatures. I live in Arizona, USA. My girls are Cream Puff and Coco Puff. Thanks for the welcome.
They are so interesting and different. Cream is the active digger and builder of burrows. She is up early and much more flighty than Coco. Coco sleeps in later in the day and comes up to the topper more and comes to me at the topper to take seeds from me more than Cream. I put their sand bath in the topper yesterday and they were having a blast.
I deleted the video above and uploaded it again. Hope you all can see it now.
Can anyone tell me why my video was removed?
Yes, I think they do as well! Thank you Heather!
Did you happen to get the email I sent to you?
