Water drinking habits

I’m just curious to see if anyone else has seen this behaviour.

I have two gerbils, Vincent and Theo, and since they weren’t really taking to water bottles I got them a tiny water bowl which works perfectly well and they use normally. .Now, the interesting this is that Vincent will go to the bowl and drink water like any other animal, lowering his mouth to it and licking the water. Now Theo, on the other hand, is surprisingly more civilised…. He goes to the edge of the bowl, reaches his right paw into the water and brings the paw to his mouth and licks the water from his paw. Essentially cupping the water and bringing it to his mouth! Has anyone else seen this before?? I find it adorable and hilarious, but I’ve never seen this!
